Alison Felix Went To The Tokyo Olympics In Her Own Brand Shoes
On the eve of the Tokyo Olympics, American sprinter Allyson Felix announced the launch of saysh, a personal sports shoe brand.
Felix won second place in the 400 meter dash in the track and field trials for the U.S. Olympic Games on June 20, making him eligible for the fifth Olympic Games. She was wearing the yet to be released saysh track and field running shoes.
The brand's press release said it was the first time an athlete "wore his own brand to compete" in track and field.
Saysh has Felix as its president and her brother Wes as its chief executive. According to time magazine, the company has received $3 million in seed money from a number of investors.
Saysh is a women centric lifestyle brand, and the women who designed and manufactured the company's first shoe, saysh one, are former Nike employees. Saysh one is priced at $150 and is currently available in three colors. According to the company's website, other products are under development.
Felix not only wanted to make shoes for women, but also to build a community. Consumers who buy sneakers will receive a lifetime "saysh collective" membership, which offers exercise videos and occasional interaction with Felix.
In an interview with Time magazine, Felix said that women are not fully served in the shoe market, and people often feel that "shrinking it and painting it pink" is enough.
"(saysh) is really about meeting women's needs," Felix said. "This product is for women who are ignored."
Felix is the most legendary female track and field athlete in American history. Felix will break the partnership with Nike in 2019. In July 2019, gap's ATHLETA brand announced a multi-year sponsorship agreement with Felix, the first time ATHLETA has sponsored athletes. Since then, Felix has been working to improve the health care inequality faced by black mothers.
Obviously, the partnership with ATHLETA is more than just sponsorship. She also supported her in many other aspects of her life, "helping me to be a better mother," Felix said. Felix can also be creative and work with ATHLETA to create products and propose product development directions.
Felix's creation of his personal brand saysh was announced through ATHLETA's official twitter. ATHLETA will launch a limited edition this summer, and saysh's sneakers will be officially sold in ATHLETA's channel this fall.
In a letter to women, Felix wrote: "like many of us, I was told to know where I am. But I'm here to run for a brand I founded, designed for women, designed for women. All my experiences as a mother and raising a daughter have helped me see my real competitor: inequality."
