The preliminary results of the radioactivity monitoring of the Western Pacific Ocean Environment released by the website sparked concern.

The environmental protection department of the State Oceanic Administration said in a written reply to the sci-tech Daily reporters in August 12th that the monitoring results showed that the polluted sea area was far beyond the scope of the Japanese announcement, and did not rule out the possibility of nuclear pollutants entering the territorial waters under the jurisdiction of our country.

"Due to the large number of samples obtained from the monitoring voyage, laboratory analysis and detection work will take some time. In order to timely release the monitoring results to the public, our bureau adopted a batch inspection and batch release method."

The Western Pacific Ocean radioactivity monitoring area is located in the 252 thousand square kilometer high seas east of Fukushima, which is the first batch of seawater samples from some stations.

The results showed that all cesium -137, strontium -90 and caesium -134, which were not detected in seawater, were detected in the samples.

The highest content of cesium -137 and strontium -90 is 300 times and 10 times higher than that of China's sea area, and the highest content of cesium -137 and cesium -134 exceeds those of China's seawater quality standards.

"The monitoring results show that the Western Pacific Ocean east and southeast of Japan has been significantly affected by the Fukushima nuclear leakage accident."

The reply said, "it is certain that marine organisms in the monitoring area will be polluted to varying degrees.

However, the extent of contamination is different in different areas of the monitoring area, and the enrichment degree of radionuclides by different marine organisms is also different.

It is said that the half-life of cesium -137 and strontium -90 will last for about 30 years, and the effects will be more lasting. In particular, the long-term effects of radioactive substances on biological and marine ecosystems and even human health will not be ignored.

Since the Fukushima nuclear accident occurred in Japan in March 11th this year, the State Oceanic Administration has been conducting emergency tracking and monitoring of radioactive accidents.

According to the current monitoring results, Fukushima nuclear leakage accident has not yet had an impact on China's waters.

But the reply indicated that according to previous studies, the circulation of the waters east of Fukushima island is rather complicated. The main currents are Kuroshio Current System and affinity current system.

The large serpentine bend of the Kuroshio extension and the mesoscale eddy on both sides of the north and South are all the reasons for the dynamic activity of the sea. Therefore, there may be multiple mobile paths after the entry of the Fukushima nuclear pollutant into the sea. Its main moving path first converge eastward along the coastal waters near the east coast of Japan to the waters near the east of Tokyo and the Kuroshio extension to the North Pacific.

However, there are also data showing that the water of the pro tide system can also move southward through the mesoscale vortex across the Kuroshio extension.

The reply said: "it is impossible to exclude the possibility of nuclear pollutants entering China's territorial waters."

According to the information released by Japan in May, the waters near Fukushima Island, 300 km, are subject to radioactivity.

contaminated

But the State Oceanic Administration's monitoring results show that the 252 thousand Km2 sea area within 800 km east of Fukushima has been significantly polluted by radioactivity, far greater than the range announced by Japan.

In reply, from the preliminary analysis results, the Western Pacific Ocean radioactivity monitoring voyage is very necessary and very timely.

This will not only provide valuable information for our country to understand and grasp the marine radioactive pollution in the waters east of Fukushima, but also provide important data support for the analysis and evaluation of the possible impact of Fukushima nuclear leakage on the waters under the jurisdiction of our country, so as to protect the marine environment safety and public health in China.

But to accurately judge and predict the pport of nuclear pollutants and its impact on marine environment and marine food safety, long-term monitoring and evaluation is also needed.

In order to further understand, grasp and assess the impact of Fukushima nuclear leakage on the Western Pacific Ocean and the sea area under the jurisdiction of our country, we should continue to carry out radioactive monitoring in the Western Pacific Ocean and the waters under the jurisdiction of our country, and focus on enhancing marine radioactive monitoring and the prediction of radioactive sewage drift path.

In addition, after the test results of the first batch of sea water samples, the detection and data analysis of the samples of marine, marine and marine atmospheric aerosols are still in progress.

The environmental protection department said that the results of radioactivity monitoring of marine organisms will be released in time according to the progress of sample analysis and analysis.
