Trade is increasing and imports from China play a leading role.

In April this year, footwear imports increased by 47.2% over the past two months.

Chile sells about 68 million pairs of shoes a year, mainly from imported shoes, and the annual output of Chile's shoe industry is about 10 million pairs.

During the 1-4 months of this year, 21 million 100 thousand pairs of imported shoes increased by 7.6% over the same period last year.

China is the main source of imported shoes for Chile. 88% of the 21 million 100 thousand pairs are from China, with an average unit price of 6.56 US dollars.

Chile's imports of shoes from China increased from 58% in 1997 to 86% last year.

The main brands imported are Bata, Forus, Adidas and Puma.

In the first four months of this year, the export of Chile's shoe industry also increased, although the price of each pair of export shoes fell by 2.6%, but the export volume increased by 12.5% year-on-year.

This is because some distributors need high quality and quick supply of leather shoes in Chile.
