Zheng Zhiyi, director of China Chemical Fiber Association, pointed out that during the "11th Five-Year" period, China's chemical fiber industry has made gratifying progress in the development, application and industrialization of special fibers. However, no fundamental steps have been taken in the research of biomass fiber and biochemical raw materials, and relatively limited understanding of Biochemistry and molecular biology has not yet realized the important role of these basic sciences in upgrading the chemical fiber industry.

During the "12th Five-Year" period, the chemical fiber industry will focus on biomass fiber and biochemical raw materials, guide the industry to upgrade the industrial level by using biotechnology, pform the traditional regenerated fiber production process, and promote the green processing and new technology and integrated technology of fiber materials.

He Yanli emphasized that at present, new solutions such as cellulose fiber, polylactic acid, seaweed, chitin, polyhydroxyfatty acid ester and biomass monomers, such as polyols, sugar aldehydes, bio ethylene, and so on, should be developed.

Vigorously developing biomass fiber can effectively expand the source of textile raw materials, make up for the shortage of domestic textile resources, and also be an important means to cope with the increasingly depletion of oil resources and realize the sustainable development of the textile industry. Developing renewable, degradable and recyclable biomass fiber dimension is also an important task to promote the restructuring of chemical fiber raw materials and establish a recycling economy development mode of chemical fiber industry.

China's chemical fiber industry has made certain achievements in the field of biomass industry technology, such as: polylactic acid and fiber are being industrialized. 1, 3- propylene glycol, 1, 4- butanediol and other biological polyols, sugar aldehydes and other monomers, polymers and fibers have made rapid progress in deep processing. The new regenerated cellulose raw materials such as bamboo pulp and hemp pulp have been diversified, and the new solvent based cellulose fiber manufacturing technology has made significant breakthroughs.

With the rapid development, production capacity has reached 1 million 910 thousand tons in 2009, accounting for 77% of world total capacity.

China's biomass fiber resources are abundant, such as crop straw and tree resources, which amount to about 30 billion tons. Marine shells and seaweeds are about 20 billion tons. The resources of animal and vegetable protein fiber are about 300 billion tons, which has broad prospects for development and application.
