The Hope Of Mexico Little Shoemaker
The sunset gradually shone with shame, and spilt the sunshine still on the old streets of Mexico City without any grudges.
However, Pacio, an ordinary street shoemaker, is most happy to him than the last "business" that he received before the booth was sold.
Many years of street work and wind and sunshine had made him still preoccupied with childish faces. He smiled bitterly and said, "sorry, I never noticed that sunset is also beautiful."
He motioned to reporters to sit in front of him to keep his shoes on.
Reporters sitting up, really a little "high above" feeling.
Immediately, he told reporters to lift their feet, and the leather shoes just fell on a scaffold on his side.
Reporters can not help but sigh that this shoeshine equipment is also very humane.
"In the past, we could receive 15 to 20 customers a day, and now there are almost 10. The more the shoe stands are, the less business they are."
Pacio is not a native. His hometown is in the southern part of Mexico. Oaxaca has no choice but to make a living in 5 cities.
"Have you ever been to Oaxaca? I have a lot of corn and coffee in my house, but in recent years it has become more and more difficult to grow land, and there is little rain and it is not good enough to sell..."
For small farmers like his family, the "big south" of corn production in the United States has brought real pain to them.
"I really don't understand why the government wants to exempt the Yankees from customs duties."
He shook his head.
"In that case, my brother came to the stall every day, sometimes peddling around with his stuff, and another brother washing cars in the garage five or six blocks away from here, and a younger sister selling things in the subway station."
He took shoe polish and pointed to a crossroad not far from the street.
For them, before dawn, they had to rush to pack up their bags, take buses and change trains, rush from the countryside to the central area to seize the "site", and spend 2 to 3 hours on the road. "We start at 5 o'clock every morning, till 6 and 7 o'clock in the evening, and nothing is more important than survival."
He said, with a little excitement, the speed of shoeshine was obviously faster.
Young people like Pacio are struggling in the streets.
The economic crisis inevitably led to the collapse of enterprises, the unemployment rate rose sharply, and social poverty intensified.
According to statistics, among the 110 million people in Mexico, the number of poor people has increased from about 40000000 in 2006 to about 50000000 now, accounting for more than half of the total population of the country.
"In the decline and pformation of society, the poverty class suffers most."
In the capital of Mexico City, journalists often see street children.
In order to maintain their livelihood, they often peddle small commodities through rolling traffic, aiming at the red light opportunity for begging activities such as selling flowers, performing arts, cleaning cars and asking for tips.
In recent years, the number of street youngsters in Mexico has increased by 10 times, which has constituted a serious social problem.
Some experts have warned that street teenagers have become a major risk of triggering violent crimes due to lack of education and easy to develop unhealthy nausea.
In order to solve this problem, the Mexico government implemented the anti-poverty relief plan, but the funds it could not control were very limited.
In the central square of Mexico City, all kinds of peddlers sell their shoes, shoes, clothes and crafts.
In accordance with the regulations, this is prohibited, but considering the important role of the informal industry in solving the problems of the people's livelihood, the government has given the "green light" to it and acquiesced the development of this small business without tax.
In the first quarter of this year, Mexico City had more than one million people engaged in informal industry.
"Although the work is hard, but every time after busy, always feel that life is substantial.
By the way, when I have saved enough money by my own hands, I will go to college, too. Life can not be hopeless, right? "Suddenly, there was a faint smile on his face.
The evening sun struck Pacio's face with a faint light. The reporter suddenly noticed that his dark face was very cool at this time.
